In this episode Milam fills in all the blanks of Goldendoodle puppy ownership and what all comes along with it!
[00:00:00] the following is a presentation of the Six Arrows Radio Network. Hello, my name is Milam. This is my podcast, Milam in the Middle. This is about me and my family, and I hope you like it. Episode 17 of Milam in the Middle, back from another very long break.
[00:00:38] We apologize to our listeners and fans all over the world. So, how you been doing, man? I've been really good. You're a little older now. You continue to grow, and your pants getting bigger and your legs getting longer. What's going on with that?
[00:00:58] Well, I haven't been wearing twill size pants on anymore. Yeah, we discovered Milam was wearing the wrong size pants when he almost broke in half one day because they were so... much too small for him. Yeah, so he's growing. He's a growing guy.
[00:01:14] You can probably tell from the voice in the intro to the voice now that this kid is changing. And it's pretty remarkable to see that happening around you, especially, you know, your parents out there.
[00:01:23] You see that happening in real time and you don't really pay attention until you go back and look at pictures and like, wow, I can't believe my kid's this big. So we're here to talk about you, Milam, but not necessarily your new blue jeans size 12.
[00:01:36] What are you wanting to talk about today? Well, a new puppy called Janie. A new puppy called Janie. Alright, so what kind of puppy is Janie? She's a golden labradoodle. Okay, no. She's a golden doodle. Oh yeah, a lot of doodles. Yeah, it's a different dog.
[00:01:56] So she's a poodle and golden retriever mix. Okay, alright, we got that squared away here. Tell me a little bit about the dog, man. I'm curious. I don't know about it because I live with her 24 seven, but you tell our listener here about Janie.
[00:02:12] Well, she was born in New York in July. Okay. And she was born at a girl's house called Ellen and we bought her from Milam's house and she's having fun at her house. She's still, she's pretty used to us now. Yeah, yeah.
[00:02:32] We take her outside a lot, we feed her. So she was born in New York? She's like a Yankee dog. Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, but we're breaking her in down south, right?
[00:02:42] Okay, so for those listening who don't know the story of Janie, how did Janie get from New York to South Carolina?
[00:02:50] Well, we had to drive 13 hours, all of us boys, all four of us, the girls stayed home and it took 13 hours to get from Sacramento to New York. It was pretty fun. We had to drive, but when we got Janie was like a whole new type of fun.
[00:03:06] Yeah, yeah. We got to play in the hotel room, you know, it was fun. It was hard to find a hotel room to take a puppy. Yeah, no, because some guy lied to us. Yeah, yeah.
[00:03:17] We stopped at a place and they didn't receive pets so he told us to go to the next exit down where they did.
[00:03:22] The folks there said we get people in here all the time that say the man up the street tells us we accept pets, but we didn't. So we finally got on Google and found a pet friendly hotel. This was on the return trip home.
[00:03:34] We did make it in one piece all the way up there. It was a 16 hour, well 13 to 16 hours, spent a look at it. And we picked up Janie. She is a golden doodle puppy.
[00:03:45] Man, tell me a little bit about how it was when you got home with a puppy because we've never had a puppy in the house before, right? Yeah, we had a thousand outside.
[00:03:56] Yeah, so we've had a couple of dogs here and there, but we've never had an inside animal before besides fish. And that was Marcus LaTrell, the lone survivor catfish that lives along. But anyway, this Janie puppy, she started out really tiny.
[00:04:14] Yeah, and when she said to someone on a high leg when she did it on somebody, she probably almost saw Zoe or me. Yeah, so she's grown a lot. I think she's close to 50 pounds now. She went from nothing to a whole lot and pretty quick.
[00:04:29] And she's about to have some more babies. We're going to breed her. Yeah, we'll get there in a few months of a year or so. But Janie has really kind of changed the dynamic in the house. Wouldn't you say things are changed since she's here?
[00:04:43] You know, take good care of her. Like, even more on my side to wake up so I can see her. Yeah, she's pretty excited to see you in the morning too. Yes, she's so happy and she jumps on you.
[00:04:53] Yeah, we got to work on that jumping on you kind of thing. Myla, tell me one of the things that you most enjoy about having a puppy in the house? Well, she's very sweet to play with. I like when we just lay down.
[00:05:06] I like when she does scratch her. Right. So did you ever think that your dad would get in the van with your brothers and drive to New York State, upper New York State to buy a dog? No. I didn't either. It's funny how things change, right?
[00:05:30] And it's not that I don't like dogs. I mean, I dig Janie. Janie is fun. I get to spend my very early morning time with her outside every morning. Yeah, and the freezing. Yeah, freezing rain, whatever it takes. Oh, tired? A little.
[00:05:46] One thing you need to tell us about Janie is she will put some pictures in the show notes, but describe her color to us. She's kind of like a mixture of cream and a little bit of brown now. It's like the green was shaved there.
[00:06:01] And now she has this big brown to gold line. And it's a little peaky. So she's got, she's almost a two tone. Yeah, but she's more cream than anything. Yeah. So she's cream colored. She's a pretty good size pup. She grew. Yeah.
[00:06:20] I mean, cause she went from nothing to a whole lot of something. Really quick. Cause I remember like, are we like sometimes we feel like this big? We can't say that big on the podcast. Give me a comparison.
[00:06:32] She was probably about the size of a little stuffed animal dog. Little stuffed animal. Yes. Good call. Good call. She's bigger than your eight year old sister. Almost. Yeah. I mean, she can stand up on her hind legs and put her feet on Zoe's shoulders
[00:06:48] and look her in the face. Yeah. So anybody out there listening that's thinking about a puppy, what do you say? Do you give a puppy a chance or do you just, you just nice too much work? Well, having a dog in the house is not responsibility.
[00:07:06] You gotta take her out and she might be going to the floor, but you gotta be careful. Yeah. So we're having some good success there. Yeah. And your brother's doing a great job as well. Do you think that, do you think that when you have your own house
[00:07:24] that you'll ever have a puppy at home? I don't even know yet. I used to think about that but I might have one. You might have one? Yeah, but I'm definitely, I'm definitely gonna have a kennel for it. Oh, you're gonna have a kennel for it?
[00:07:36] Yeah, cause I want to mess up my house. Yeah. Yeah. She's a great, and she does really well there. Yeah, she was taking naps. Yeah, she just kind of, that's kind of funny because she's just so laid back.
[00:07:51] The older the dog gets, the more I laid back there. Yeah, yeah. So don't be afraid of a new puppy. And who knows what will, what will come up, Janie in the future. Yeah, huh?
[00:08:04] Yeah, the best thing about having a golden jewel is that they're perfect for kids. They are really good for kids, aren't they? Yeah. Well Myla, we've enjoyed catching up with you. Sorry it's been so long but really cool to say hey. Yeah.
[00:08:19] And we'll be back hopefully soon with another episode. Thanks for listening to Myla in the Middle. Thanks for listening to my podcast. And find it online at MylaMiddle.com. MylaMiddle.com
