Last December, I watched my son open the first window on his LEGO Advent calendar. One small piece, one small moment, but he was fully locked in. And it hit me: families connect when something gives them a simple, daily rhythm.
That single moment is what sparked this whole idea.
If a handful of plastic bricks can hold a kid’s attention for 25 days, surely I could build something that helps families connect in a way that actually matters—communication, responsibility, leadership, and a little more order going into the new year.
That turned into the 2025 Advent Calendar for Family & Emergency Communications.
It’s a free, printable PDF you can tape to the fridge.
Each day has one small step that strengthens how your family communicates—nothing heavy, nothing complicated, just one meaningful action at a time.
Why an Advent Calendar for Communication?
Families don’t need pressure; they need patterns.
Small things done daily build confidence faster than big plans done once.
Most households want to be better prepared:
• When the power blinks
• When the phones stop cooperating
• When weather pops up
• When kids need a way to reach mom or dad
• When something feels “off” and you want your home aligned
But people freeze when the task feels too big.
So this calendar shrinks everything down into one small daily step anyone can do.
It fits the season.
It honors the meaning of Christmas.
And it strengthens the home without adding more noise.
What’s Inside the PDF
Every day includes:
• a short story or principle
• one clear action step
• a reflection to talk about
• links to tools or guides
The topics walk through the entire arc of family communication:
• FRS / GMRS / MURS basics
• Weather radio skills
• Shortwave listening
• Digital decoding
• Coax and connectors
• Antennas
• Water filtration and stewardship
• Simple drills
• Faith-grounded Christmas reflections
• And Christmas Eve + Christmas Day check-ins
Nothing overwhelming.
Just small wins stacked day after day.
A Gift for Your Home This December
This isn’t a sales piece.
This isn’t a funnel trick.
It’s something I built to help families connect—and to give them a healthier way to think about communication during a season that’s already full of meaningful moments.
Print it.
Share it.
Tape it to your fridge.
Walk through December with more intention, more clarity, and a little more direction.
When the new year rolls in—after the batteries die in the kids’ new walkie talkies and the house gets quiet again—if you want a place to keep learning at your own pace, the Prep Comms Network will be there. But there’s no rush. Follow the calendar first. That’s enough for now.

Final Thought
Families grow stronger when communication gets clearer.
December gives you the margin to build that rhythm one day at a time.
I hope this helps and here's to a Merry Christmas
73 y’all & God Bless.
